Taro is one of the most sacred plants in Hawaiian culture. According to Hawaiian mythology the Hawaiian gods Wakea (sky father) and Papahānaumoku (sky mother) had a stillborn child. In the place the stillborn child was buried the first Taro
plant grew.

The story of Taro symbolizes life born from loss and rebirth. A powerful parallel to the fires in Lahaina. Both represent devastation but also the potential for new life and
new beginnings.
The name ‘OLA’ in Hawaiian means to heal and to survive which links perfectly with the mission of the ice cream. The accent on the ‘o’ turns the pronunciation from ‘o-la’
to ‘oo-la’.

The secondary symbol mark is the Hawaiian piko symbol. The piko symbol in Hawaiian culture represents bringing the past and future together, life cycles and the start of
new life.

Within the packaging there are small seeds. The packaging can be torn up and planted to represent rebirth and to give the packaging a new life.
